Maison Alain Brune
The term 'Hidden Gem' has been overly abused when it comes to selling wines. Whenever a new name emerges from Burgundy, it automatically earns the label of a hidden gem. However, we have indeed discovered a true hidden gem, one that is well-hidden and of top-notch quality.
Originally from Jura, Alain Brune's passion for wine began at a young age. He started working in the vineyards for Pierre Overnoy, a living legend in Jura, when he was just 14 years old. After spending years in the vineyards and cellars, his love for wine led him to Burgundy in 1989.
Initially working in Morey Saint Denis at Guy Coquard's estate, he eventually began making wine for himself as a hobby and for pleasure. Impressed by the quality of his wines, his friends encouraged him to turn his hobby into a business. In 1997, he established a negoce to meet the growing demand from friends and himself.
Now based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, all of his wines undergo 18 months of ageing in old barrels with minimal intervention. They are fermented in 100% whole bunch with natural yeast, remain unfined and unfiltered, are never chaptalized, and only receive a minimal amount of sulfites at the bottling stage. Production is limited, with typically no more than three barrels of Village or Grand Cru appellation wines produced each year.
Due to his unique production methods, most of his wines were consumed by Alain, his friends, and the occasional tourist. Consequently, his wines remained undiscovered and were not exported for a significant period of time. Whenever he has time, he takes care of his garden which gives him fruits and vegetables, living a peaceful and tranquil life.
We are honoured to be Alain's first importer and to introduce you to this genuine 'Hidden Gem'.
