OBORA
Angela Quiblier and Hugo Foizel, who previously worked together at Domaine des Jeunes Pousses, have joined forces to establish their own winery called OBORA. Situated in Chenas, Beaujolais, OBORA embodies their shared passion for winemaking and their diverse backgrounds in the wine industry.
Angela's journey in the world of wine began with her studies in Food Science in Canada before returning to France to pursue oenology. Hailing from Jura, her introduction to the wine industry was facilitated by her work with Stephane Tissot. Angela's professional experiences include stints at Domaine Leroy alongside Lalou Bize Leroy, followed by the Hospices de Beaune with Ludivine Griveau, and finally with Thibault Liger-Belair. These experiences have given her valuable insights into the intricate relationship between winegrowers, their vines, and the resulting wines.
Hugo, born in Champagne's Côte des Bar region, completed his Advanced Vocational Diploma (BTS) in viticulture and oenology through an apprenticeship in Champagne. He furthered his studies to obtain an oenology diploma. Hugo's professional journey has taken him to various renowned estates including Domaine de Terrebrune in Bandol, as well as Domaine de la Romanée Conti and Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüe in Burgundy.
The name OBORA is derived from the birthplaces of Angela and Hugo (Aube and Jura) and the location where they craft their wines (Beaujolais). The winery is certified organic and practices biodynamic farming, reflecting their commitment to sustainable viticulture. Inside the cellar, they employ a minimalist approach, using only natural yeast, and the wines are unfined and unfiltered. Only a minimal amount of sulfite is added before bottling.
One of the most exciting Beaujolais wineries to watch.
